Sober living homes, sometimes called sober living homes and sober living facilities, centers that offer structured and safe living situations for people leaving drug rehabilitation programs. SLSs serve as an intermediate period between these programs and the regular community. The programs typically focus on one or two specific areas of treatment. These areas may be in the form of a family environment, an outpatient setting, or an inpatient setting. These establishments may feature different activities depending on the specific programs that they offer. Many of these programs are set up by state-licensed agencies. This is because these centers aim to offer quality facilities to their residents and to help them achieve long-term sobriety.
In order to qualify to receive treatment at a residential facility, residents have to meet all the requirements needed to qualify for the program. First, they need to be at least eighteen years old. Second, they need to have had an unsuccessful attempt to quit smoking cigarettes and need to have been committed to the center under medical supervision. Third, they have to have a stable income and be of legal age. Lastly, they need to pass a series of psychological evaluations in order to be accepted into the center. Residents may be required to participate in group counseling sessions in addition to individual counseling sessions.
Some residential treatment programs provide individual and group therapy. They may also offer group exercise sessions and group games such as musical chairs. Depending on the severity of the addiction that the resident has, the center may also include in-house therapy. If the resident does not get enough sleep, they may attend special sleep study programs.
