Wilderness First Recovery Sober Living Home

Sober Living Homes, sometimes called sober living centers and sober living homes, are residential treatment and residential living facilities intended to provide safe, secure housing and supportive, structured life conditions for individuals leaving drug rehabilitation programs. SLHs provide a transitional period between those programs and the mainstream society, often consisting of short-term inpatient treatment. In some cases, they are also residential drug rehab programs for a number of months or years. The focus of an SLH is on providing addicts with an environment that allows them to recover from their addictions without having to experience relapse, as well as to learn about new ways to deal with personal and work-life issues.

Many addicts will enter a residential drug rehab program for several reasons. For some it may be a final escape from the pain, fear, and anxiety that they feel is plaguing their lives. For others it may be a way to begin anew after suffering a series of failed attempts at recovery, including jail time, incarceration, and drug use and addiction. For some it may be a chance to completely recover from drug addiction while living in a safe environment in which to do so. For others, an SLH may be a chance to get clean and stay sober while working toward a higher level of sobriety. Most people entering a residential drug rehab program leave an SLH with a more positive outlook about their life and less resentment toward drug addiction than when they left. In many cases, they return to the community feeling as if they have recovered fully from their addictions and have found purpose and fulfillment in their lives once again.

Sober Living Homes has two primary components: a residential treatment program and support services. The residential treatment portion of an SLH typically consists of a series of in-home and group therapy sessions and group activities, along with individual and group counseling and support groups. These residential treatment programs are designed to help individuals overcome their addiction, as well as to educate them on how to cope with the drug dependency. The residential support services include housing, food assistance, laundry services, medical attention, and access to employment and education programs that are designed to keep an individual from returning to drug use. drugs and the trauma they can bring. The residential treatment and support services provided by an SLH are usually supported by a group of community and religious organizations, as well as support groups, to ensure that the addict’s needs are met in the care and recovery of an integrated setting.
