Sober living homes, sometimes called sober homes environments, are residential centers which provide structured and safe living conditions for those exiting drug rehab programs. SLHs serve mainly as a transitional environment to help people come out of addiction without any negative effects on their lives. In order to make an SLH work effectively, the addict must be able to adapt to a new way of life. In this process, the addict may have to take part in daily life activities and interact with others in a relaxed and natural manner. This may involve having to deal with family members, friends, or employers. While this will seem daunting at first, many people who have completed an SLH have found it easier than expected.

The main purpose of sober homes is to offer a safe haven for those who are suffering from substance abuse. In the center, addicts live in clean, well-appointed apartments or other types of living quarters. They are usually accompanied by an addict caretaker who takes care of them during the day while they are with their therapist and at night during supervised activities. In most sober living homes, there is a 24 hour security system in place to monitor and protect the patients, staff, and family.

One thing that addicts should keep in mind when going into a sober home environment is to stick to a program as specified by their therapists. One should avoid any kind of experimentation with substances as this can damage the program or even put them back into the drug addiction cycle. Also, the addict must be patient and willing to make changes in his or her life. Many so called “sober living homes” may have their own set of rules that the addict may have to follow, but they will still have to follow them even after their detoxification period. To avoid any potential health risks, it is best to consult your doctor before undergoing treatment. These facilities should be licensed, have good safety measures in place, and should offer assistance to families who are experiencing relapse into the addiction.
