Sober Living Homes, sometimes called sober living communities and sober living facilities, are residential facilities that offer supportive, structured housing and safe living conditions for those exiting drug rehab programs. SLHs often serve as a transition between such drug rehab programs and the community at large. Many people who are in need of a support group and a way to maintain an organized home life find a SLH to provide them with both. Some of these homes can be self-contained, while others may be part of a larger system of addiction treatment centers or group homes, such as a boarding school.

While many people who choose to enter a drug rehab program may not have considered living in a home for addicts, it is becoming more common. A residential community is designed to provide residents with the same amenities of a home, but without having the same emotional baggage associated with home ownership. This is a good choice for some people because they may not have access to a variety of amenities when they are trying to get their lives back on track after being away from drugs. The cost of living in a residential community is lower than living in an apartment building, and some homes even offer amenities like swimming pools, gyms, and recreational areas for residents to use. These homes are not the only option for someone who wants a clean and sober life, but many find that they are the best choice for them.

Some types of residential communities have rules that are meant to limit the number of people who live in a home at one time. However, there are many people who choose to live in an SLH after leaving a rehab center. This may be because the person chose not to stay in a drug rehab program because he or she decided that the process was not working or because the addict found a more convenient way to live their lives. Whatever the reason, the choice to live in an SLH is often the best choice for recovering addicts.
