Came to Pass Recovery

Sober Living Homes, sometimes referred to as sober living homes and transitional living environments, are residential homes and facilities that offer structured, safe housing and support, for those leaving drug rehab programs. Often, SLH serve as an interim housing between these programs and conventional society. They are located in areas with low crime rates, safe neighborhoods, and access to employment. Many of them have a combination of both recreational and therapeutic activities. People in the recovery process move from one residential facility to the next until they find a new home and/or program. In some cases, individuals who have not yet recovered from drug addiction choose to stay at a Sober Living Home for a period of time before returning to their previous residence or setting, as a means of helping them become drug-free and reintegrate back into society.

The term “Sober Living” originally refers to the rehabilitation program run by the drug-treatment center in which the patient was admitted, rather than a residential treatment program. Most people choose to go through a residential drug treatment program when they are ready for a more stable and controlled life than their previous, chaotic lifestyle. However, people choose Sober Living Homes for a variety of reasons. First, they need someplace to go where they can get away from it all. Second, they need a clean environment where they can go to cry, relax, and decompress before returning to their normal, active lives. Lastly, many people choose a Sober Living Home because they want a sense of control over their lives. They can feel safe, secure, and in charge, rather than being dependent on someone else to do what needs to be done.

Sober Living Homes offers all the benefits of traditional drug rehab programs, such as individual therapy, group work, group therapy and recreation, and a healthy community where people from different backgrounds can live in close proximity to one another. These facilities also provide a safe, drug-free, therapeutic environment. All residents in a Sober Living Home are given the same treatment options and services. The only difference is that they are staying longer and moving out of the drug-dependent community in which they were once residents.
