Sober Living Homes, or sober living facilities, are residential care facilities that offer structured, safe living environments and supportive, individualized care for those leaving drug rehabilitation programs. They serve as a transition between those programs and the mainstream society. Residents live in sober living homes until they are ready to return to their everyday lives. It’s a place where residents can live in an environment that is both safe and nurturing. Residential care is also known as residential rehab or a residential treatment center. It involves an inpatient program, outpatient programs and in some cases, a combination of both. Those who have successfully completed drug treatment programs and are living with a support group will benefit from sober living homes.

Sober living facilities are not supervised by a mental health agency or social service agency. They are run and managed by an independent company or organization that specializes in the management of residential care facilities. A sober living home for people who have gone through drug recovery programs works on a case-by-case basis. Each resident and visitor at the facility are evaluated individually. Based on the information provided, a plan is created for each resident. These plans include, but are not limited to, daily schedules, diet and nutrition, medication management and supervision by a resident’s family. Residents are also encouraged to take responsibility for their own care and maintenance of their health.

Residential care facilities offer many services to its residents. Some include personalized therapy, therapeutic recreation, individual counseling and support groups. Programs also include support groups, peer counseling and social activities for residents and visitors. Residents are encouraged to create a personalized plan for their care and life beyond the residential care facility. Residents and visitors can also participate in the ongoing recovery process through education, support groups and a variety of other opportunities.
