Verhelst Recovery House

Sober Living Homes, sometimes called sober living facilities and residential treatment facilities, are establishments that offer supportive, safe housing, and structured, regulated living arrangements for people leaving drug addiction programs. Often called residential detoxification homes, SLHs provide a safe and healthy environment to those recovering from addiction. These facilities may also be referred to as residential treatment facilities. In addition to the residential treatment of drug addiction, these facilities often provide intensive medical and psychiatric care as well. Some of the most important aspects of any so-called sober living home involve detoxification of drug abusers. The addict is usually not allowed to take drugs or alcohol inside the house. He may be confined to his room at night and may have limited contact with others until after he has been completely clean.

One of the first and most important aspects of being accepted into one of these residential treatment centers, called an SLH, is a detoxification process. Detoxification involves removing all addictive substances and chemicals from the body and replacing them with healthier substances and chemicals. In many cases, addicts who detox themselves undergo detoxification programs in conjunction with the residential treatment programs for drug addiction. One common detoxification process includes complete withdrawal from alcohol or other drugs. Detox is important for several reasons; it relieves the addict of his physical symptoms and it gives him time to recover mentally.

Residential treatment facilities for drug addiction can help you find an environment in which you can recover from your addiction. You will be taught to live independently, learn healthy ways of dealing with other people, and become more self-confident. With all of these aspects in place, you will have a chance to live a life that is totally free from the temptations of drug abuse and alcoholism.
